Carbohydrates are found in the cell membrane (as glycoproteins and glycolipids), in chromosomes (as part of DNA/RNA sugar backbone), and in the nucleus (within nucleotides).

They are not typically present in enzyme active sites, which are mostly composed of amino acid residues from proteins.
