Explanation

The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement originated in the United States in 2013, after the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer.

The movement gained widespread attention and support in 2020 following the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other African Americans.

BLM protests and activism have since spread globally, but its roots and core initiatives began in the US.
