The World Trade Center complex in New York City was destroyed on September 11, 2001.

On September 11, 2001, the complex was destroyed in a terrorist attack when two hijacked commercial airliners were flown into the Twin Towers.

The attacks killed 2,606 people in and around the towers, as well as all 157 on board the two aircraft.
