Israel is a name that originates from the Hebrew language.

It means "he who struggles with God" or "man of God".

This name was given to Jacob, the son of Isaac, after he wrestled with an angel and won (Genesis 32:28).

From then on, Jacob was known as Israel, and his descendants were called the Children of Israel.
