Earth is closest to the sun every year in early January when it's winter for the Northern Hemisphere.

21/22 December is the longest night (Solstice)

21 June Longest Day

21 March and 23sept equal day and night.

In Nairobi (Libya) equal day and night happen.

When earth is closer to sun it is month of January and this process is known as Perihelion. (means shortest distance b/w earth and sun)

NOTE: it does not mean, Earth And Sun Come close in the Month of June and the Hottest days occur.  [Misconception]

When earth is away from the sun it is month of June and this process is known as Aphelion. (Means, longest distance b/w earth and sun)
