Xinjiang Province or Sinkiang Province was a province of the Republic of China.

First set up as a province in 1884 by the Qing dynasty

They were renamed Xinjiang (新疆) in 1884, meaning "new frontier,"

when both regions were conquered by the Manchu Qing dynasty after the Dungan revolt (1862–1877)
