Explanation

On 6 June 2024, Pakistan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 8th time.

Pakistan garnered 182 votes in the 193-member General Assembly

Required votes: 124 votes

Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia will replace Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland whose terms end on December 31, 2024.

Pakistan will replace Japan.

Pakistans earlier terms on the council were in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69 and 1952-53.

Pakistan has become a non-permanent member of the Security Council Eight Times:-

1.      1952-1953,

2.      1968-1969,

3.      1976-1977,

4.      1983-1984,

5.      1993-1994,

6.      2003-2004,

7.       2012-2013
