• The War of Independence started on May 10, 1857, in Meerut.
• The rebellion was started by Indian troops in the service of the British East India Company. 
• The rebellion was called the Sepoy Mutiny or the First War of Independence and it spread to Delhi, Agra, Kanpur and Lucknow.
• The rebellion ended on July 8, 1859 .
