The Inspectorate Headquarters Jails of Punjab is located in Lahore

The Punjab Prisons Department was established in 1854 

9 jails in Punjab were constructed during the 19th century. 

Both District Jail Jhelum and Central Jail, Gujranwala are listed oldest jail in Pakistan

Lahore has two main jails:

• Central Jail (Kot Lakhpat) 
• District Jail (also known as Camp Jail) in Shadman.

At the time of the partition of Punjab, there were nineteen jails in the province. 

21 jails were constructed in Punjab province after partition.
