The 1965 war between India and Pakistan began on April 6, 1965 with the start of Operation Gibraltar.

India retaliated by crossing the international border at Lahore on September 6, 1965 and attacking Lahore and Kasur.

The war lasted 17 days.

The war ended with a ceasefire declared on September 22, 1965 after diplomatic intervention by the Soviet Union and the United States.
