Explanation

A referendum on allowing Pervez Musharraf to continue as President for five years was held in Pakistan on April 30, 2002.

This referendum was part of Musharraf's efforts to legitimize his rule after he seized power in a military coup in October 1999.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan confirmed the legitimacy of this referendum.
