The Lucknow Pact was an agreement  between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim Federation (AIML) at a joint meeting of  the two parties  in Lucknow in December 1916. The Lucknow Pact was seen as a beacon of hope for the unity of Hindus and Muslims. This is the first time  Hindus and Muslims have jointly called for political reform in Britain. This has led to a growing belief in British India that home rules are a real possibility.
