Mahmud of Ghazni’s seventeen successive raids took place from around 1000 AD until 1026 AD.

His most famous raid was in 1025 AD, where he plundered and damaged the Somnath temple in Gujarat

Abu al-Qasim Mahmud ibn Sabuktigin, usually known as Mahmud of Ghazni 

He was the Sultan of the Ghaznavid Empire, ruling from 998 to 1030. 

He is usually known by his title, Yamin al-Dawla 

He was born in Ghazni in Zabulistan (Afghanistan) on 2 November 971
